Healthline announced earlier this week that it has generated $14 million for the development of its medical search engine.

Healthline brings a semantic approach to the specific health industry, giving users more in-depth search results than conventional search engines. Healthline worked with doctors and industry professionals to organize and repackage complex medical terminology in a more consumer-friendly manner.

In this latest round of fundraising, Healthline, in coordination with the Investor Growth Capital, generated an additional $14 million for its future development. Healthline has now acquired more than $70 million for development, reports VentureBeat.

"Consumers have become increasingly engaged in their own healthcare, and smart organizations are looking to capitalize on this trend," said Phil Dur, managing director of IGC. "We’re looking forward to assisting Healthline with its efforts to continue to provide products that not only help consumers, but media and healthcare partners as well."

Industry-specific search engines are continuing to become more popular. Earlier this month, Fly.com announced that they were seeing record-breaking amounts of traffic. Whether these industry-specific search engines will have any effect on search engine optimization (SEO) techniques is yet to be seen.
